Sorry but no chance, not on this earth or the next. No way is a company going to book someone into a Boarding Group #5 (last group) and not be able to bring a carry on bag (i.e. no laptop, no work, no communication with company or clients).
BE still gets a personal item, which any laptop should easily fit in, just no roll aboard luggage. So no issue there with working on the plane for BE fares.
