OK, so after talking to Expedia again, £150pp is the change fee and the other £450pp is the price difference b/n what I paid a month ago and what the tickets cost now.

I had expected the fare difference to be calculated based on current cost of the tickets, rather than the difference between what I paid a month ago and today. Wishful thinking I guess!
