Flying ATL/MIA last night seated in 3A and just as the a/c is ready to push back this young guy runs up to the front of the a/c and screams "I have to get off I just got word of a family emergency." The FA immediately calls the Captain and he halts the pushback.

A few minutes later a GA supervisor comes back to reattach the jet bridge, having difficulty doing so. Behind the supervisor is a young girl. Well apparently this young girl was this guy's girlfriend that had missed the flight and he used the fabricated story to have the GA reattach the jet bridge so the girl friend could get on the flight.

So when the supervisor learns what has happened he starts yelling at the guy "you said you needed to get off so why aren't you getting off?" After a few minutes of the supervisor ranting against the guy that he needs to get off the a/c the Captain came out and said the flight needed to go because there were many connections on board. He ordered the guy and his gf to their seats and requested the supervisor just let the two of them fly.

After that an uneventful flight. However, first time for me witnessing a pax lie to get the jet bridge reattached.
