Here dinners hosted by the likes of CX and SQ are a complete waste of time and half the time, people are there for free booz and food.
I have been to several CX DM and SQ PPS Solitaire dinners and found them a total waste of time.
With the recent decline in CX and their lack of actionable feedback on aspects to their inflight catering and other matters, I have moved my FFP to BA Executive Club.
Until CX listens to its most loyal customers, I will avoid them from now on. They also need to get a new CEO as their current incumbent is a useless soul.

I hear you brother. I have. Even loyal to CX for two decades and am going to ditch them once my MPC DM expires in 2018.
I am based in HK and their earn structure is ridiculous... I would still support them but the deal breaker was my flight to sin last night. I noticed that the food at the lounges has gone to crap as they ditched Peninsula and passed on the management to the Plaza Premium.
As for the dinners etc.. it's a waste of time.
