Depending on fare class it might be possible. Done that before with semi-flexible and flexible tickets. But, the staff at the outposts is more forthcoming than in SIN. In SIN it might be tough.

With a restricted fare ticket the chances are really slim. On the other hand the term "not possible" could also simply mean the flight was full.
