I stayed very recently at the Kurfürstendamm one and had a good stay. I never stayed at the other one (Gendarmenmarkt), but its location is nice too.
Very close to the Sofitel Kurfürstendamm, you have also the Pullman Schweizerhöf (an ex-Sofitel) which is nice too.
