Well my first sentence of this thread did contain : "In typical Star Alliance ham-fisted style" ...............

They are pretty incompetent - as the recent 55555 promo showed well. Such promos ware designed PURELY to generate extra traffic.

Therefore the bare MINIMUM they should insist upon is a common promo period for that, and a more or less common set of rules. The REAL world saw a silly polyglot of valid promo currency, total confusion as to how the Austrian group of 3 were treated, and total inconsistency among carriers re the rules.
