Why would they bother to up the qualification level and then have such an easy way to get around it? Hyatt management has said they are not focused on the credit card as a source of profitability. If they were, they would allow people to earn status by using points for stays. This would encourage larger expenditures with affinity cards. This is not at all the direction in which they are moving.
