The FYF went missing last week or 2 ago.
As mentioned by others, the value of Air Miles is significantly dependent on where you are located, and where you need to go to, with smaller/remote airports making it more sense to use.
Earlier this year I made a booking for my wife to the Maritimes (from YYZ) for 1700 points and $120 taxes. The equivalent revenue fare was about $600, so we saved over $480. We tried to look for same on Aeroplan at 25,000 points, and there were much fewer options, and most included a layover. Conversely, Air Miles had many, many more flight options, AND significantly more non-stop options.
So, a 2000 point signup, even with $65/yr fee is worth over $400...*IF* you can make it work for yourself, which not everyone seems to be able to do, including ourselves in spite of this recent redemption, at least not every year. Air Miles are a gap-filler for us.
