Kind of unrelated, but could be useful datapoint. I was transiting in SYD (CNS-SYD-AUH) and had an 8 hour layover. Got to EY check in desk happy that they had the afternoon flight open for check in (I was on the night flight). Agent refused to take my bag. Pushed for it asking for an exception as I was flying first class. Manager comes in and say "even if I opened an exception, chances are your bag would be lost". Schocking ... I'd thought SYD sees plenty of long layover passengers and that this would not be the case.
