Global entry denial due to 28 year old DUI?
My sister lives in WDC and went for her global entry interview yesterday. She learned, while there, that when she received a DUI in 1988 (to which she plead guilty, paid the fine and had her license temporarily suspended) the case was never closed. The agent told her that there was "no resolution" of the case evident on the file and that the file did not even have a case number. She was told that she has 30 days to resolve the matter and bring a hard copy to the GE center showing that the 28 year old case is closed.
She is in another state and will have to try to solve this by phone-with the sheriff's office personnel- and receive proof within 30 days.
Several questions:
First, does a 28 year old unresolved DUI disqualify one from GE? The agent gave her a line about "global entry being a privilege reserved for the most qualified few". Seems unrelated to being a security risk but I am uninformed in this area.
Second, is there a way to get the 30 days extended should she hit bureaucratic obstacles with the sheriff's office (seems a possibility) ?
Third, any other tips as to how she might resolve this/appeal/ etc?
