Having switched all of my long haul flying this year to Virgin I was only able to achieve 515 tier points. My membership year ended 5 days ago - tier points reset etc.... and app/account is still showing Silver with 0 points and when I open tab for 'progress to next tier' it still references Gold with my new year end date in November 2017. Does this mean I have been allowed to maintain silver status despite not achieving 600 tier points or does it simply take a few weeks to filter though and I will find myself dumped down to Bronze in a few days time?

It still says that until you're demoted (having just experience the same thing!). I'm still Silver until the end of the month and seeing the same as you but am being processed back to Bronze
There's an option to check 'Executive Club items' or similar (someone will be along to tell you the right thing in a sec) which will likely tell you that your Bronze card is on its way.
There is some evidence that people are being given extensions, so you may be lucky, I would still expect that Bronze card to be winging your way too
