Yes, the crew leaves the plane shortly after a fast check. I once dropped my keys on my seat upon arrival at SFO. I went to pick up my car at the long term parking and found out I couldn't get in my car. I went back to the airport immediately and within 20 minutes CX's staff at the airport handed me back my keys (they were processing checkin for the return flight). But it was obvious that wasn't garbage.
