AKL-USA non-stop is not a big market. It doesn't even make the Top 40 as published by the U.S. DOT's April 2016 report of
U.S. International Air Passenger and Freight Statistics. (A rather dry read. Lots of data tables, though.) BTW, Tel Aviv was #40 for the 12-months ending 6/2015, with 1.361 million passengers. A further BTW: I believe Delta serves 38 of those 40 top international markets with its own aircraft - no DXB or IST.
AA just started AKL service in June this year. The market hasn't even shown it can support three carriers, let alone four.
