You could apply for the Southwest Plus card. But the only way it would work is if your first closing date is in 2016. Otherwise the points will post in 2017 and will be if no help as far as earning the companion pass this year. Also, you must meet the minimum spending at least 5 days before your statement end date or it will be credited on the next statement which wouldn't help you either.
