I hold both an BA PP Amex and an Amex Platinum. My wife has a basic (blue) BA Amex.
There was some discussion a while back whether or not the referrer and card holder bonuses would be paid if I refer my wife for a Gold while she still holds the BA Amex, but the text of the referral only stated that bonuses would not be earned if the invitee had held an Amex charge card the last in six months (which she doesn't and hasn't).

The key bit from the application is this:
"I understand I will not be eligible for the Welcome Bonus if I hold or have held within the past six months any Membership Rewards enrolled American Express Card."
As long as your wife meets that criteria then the bonus and referral bonus will be paid. The BA Amex has nothing to do with this as the card reward currencies are different
