These are all the subway/rail connections possible from the JFK AirTrain:
1. AirTrain to Howard Beach --> A train
You can connect directly to the A train at Howard Beach, which passes along the northern edge of Crown Heights.
No LIRR service here.
2. AirTrain to Jamaica --> LIRR, E train, J/Z train
The name of the subway station here is "Sutphin Blvd/Archer Av/JFK Airport," where you can catch the the J/Z trains to Brooklyn and lower Manhattan, or the E train to Queens and Midtown Manhattan.
The name of the LIRR station here is just "Jamaica." This is LIRR's major hub where you can catch a train to the Nostrand Av LIRR station, which is also on the northern edge of Crown Heights.
The LIRR to Nostrand Av is undoubtedly the quickest in terms of on-train travel time, but it doesn't run as frequently as the subway and is more expensive ($4.25 on weekends, $6 off-peak weekdays, $8 peak weekdays).
