Update 2 - supervisor was challenged by someone higher up who agreed with the first agent's action. So I'll have to wait until after the trip to claim the mileage diff, which I'm told has been programmed to auto-trigger after trip completion.
Both I and supervisor disagree with the prevailing opinion, but it seems we ran into bad luck. It is my belief that a friendly CSR would have had the ability to do an even exchange in a case like this.
