Air France and United two reservations with lots of luggage

Hi all,

I am having one heck of a time with the one. I am in France for 8 months, I had a flexable ticket on United out of Green Bay to Paris. On my flights back I have to leave from Montpellier, they did not have any trains that made sense, so I am taking Air France. I tried to add Air France Montpellier to Paris onto my United reservation and United said NO. I called Air France customer service, because I would have two much luggage for an inter-France flight, they said to book it, and then go to a ticket agent and have them note the atlantic segment on United, so I get two bags of 70 pounds each. I tried doing that and I was told that I can't do that and I would have to pay 82 euros in excess baggage charges for my Air France flight. Has anyone had experience with two seperate reservations, and lots of luggage? If I show the airport person I am connecting on United in Paris, will I be able to bring more luggage, or does it just depend on how that person is feeling? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much

Timo
