I wonder if WN would keep the numbered boarding if it went to assigned seating. I think that is one big advantage they have over the legacy airlines, most of my experience being with AA. Even just having an area with a sign that says "now boarding such and such status" where you couldn't be in there if you weren't in that group would be a huge improvement over the current mob scene.
