I was not counting the spouses indeed since their status is technically called "Circle Partner" or something, and they are linked to a "real" member.

Well, since it is out now...
My source was the 2001 version of this presentation that said that SR/LX had about 1'600 Circle members worldwide (the others were of other Qualiflyer airlines and have most likely been transferred to the respective post-Qualiflyer FFPs). I figured that this number could likely translate into 1'200 today.
