Sofitel Vienna
Introduction I recently paid a return visit to the Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom. I have to admit I always had a fondness for this hotel and its modern style which is in contrast to many other Viennese hotels and their old fashioned fuziness. Check In Check in wnet very smooth. The upgrade (prestige suite) was ready for me immediately and did not have to be requested. The only draw back was the request to fill in my personal details. I reminded them that they have all that on the Accor system. The duty manager immediately stepped in and confirmed that no deatils were required. Also no CC swipe was necessary. The duty manager then offered to escort me to the room. Room I was already familar with this room type due to previous stays. This one was a grey suite facing the Stephansdom. The size is generous and stlysih. The only drawback was thefact that they furniture was showing signs of wear and tear. When I pointed this out the duty manager confirmed that next year the hotel will undergo a renovation. While this is welcome I don't think they should have let it slip this far. If I had paid for the suite I would have expected better to be honest.View from the room:The welcome amenity (which appears to be getting smaller compared to previous stays). A personalised welcome letter from the GM (who I met previously but was out of town on this occasion). Worn out furniture: Service I had room service and could not fault this at all. Very friendly and swift. The bar service on the other hand was a little less efficient. It took quite a while to get served (spending the free drinks voucher, valid for any drink). Yes it was busy for the staff were oozing attitude and were not exactly quick of their marks. Location Location is very good. A metro station is just across the bridge and with one stop you get to WIen Mitte where the airport train (CAT) leaves from. Dining In addition to room service I also had breakfast. Hot dishes can be ordered with your server and a large buffet snakes around the top floor restaurant. The rate is an exorbitant €32 which in my view is far too much. Yes it is good but not that good, for that price I expect free flowing bubbles 😉 Overall Overall this is still a great hotel. They do get the Le Club treatment right and the rooms are stunning (in any category). I wished to would consider having an Executive Lounge, this would definitely improve the hotel. Room rates tend to be quite reasonable for a European Sofitel but F&B prices are high. Would I return? Most definitely but they need to make greater efforts on the maintenance programme.
