I'm not surprised this is going, nor am I going to greatly bemoan its loss. But many people choose hotels based on the lounge offering, and letting hotels close their lounge whenever they feel like it, with no compensation for guests, (and don't say breakfast in the restaurant is compensation since you would get that in the lounge, along with drinks all day and snacks in the evening) doesn't quite sit right.
And the LAX property is under no obligation to offer the points when they clearly don't even have a lounge. So maybe they actually want to attract Diamond members by offering some bonus points...
