I've had similar issues other times. It doesn't matter what's on the BP or what was on the PNR when you flew the segment. All that matters is what's on the PNR at the end of the day.
I ve personally split an itinerary four weeks ago between AS and AA crediting, without issues. As well as DL and AZ on a DL itinerary.
So this appears to be a United limitation (or Star)
I know AE can remove the segments, since it appears to have been done before to people.
The challenge we are having is to find anyone at Aeroplan knowing/willing how to. Absolutely useless.
