Apologies if you've already considered this, but: the only way to use United miles/certificates/status to upgrade a *A flight (other than UA, LH, NH, or Copa) is to book a Y or B fare on the *A partner. I'm surprised if that $926 fare is a B fare. If it's not, then it might be upgradable with EVA miles, but not with UA miles.

This might be your best bet for getting out of Y on this route.

That, or -- since you don't need the PQM -- just become a free agent and look for the cheapest J/PE fare on any airline. If you're in Y, then flying a *A airline lets you use your *G benefits (lounge access, free bags, priority boarding... which are not to be sneered at!). If your budget is <$1K, then you're probably going to end up in Y.
