I don't know if DC will work, but i got my AA plat (equiv to Star Gold) on the basis of my UA Gold. AA plat will give you the benefits of BA Silver (incl lounge access) when you use BA without the difficulty of trying to get a BA ECH card. I'd never reach OW Sapphire with the BA ECH scheme but with AA it's not a problem.

n.b. I lost my UA status this year and got a UK Status Match on BD with my AA Plat. Now i can use the UA lounges when travelling on US domestic
