Did you search ba.com for a roundtrip, or for two one-ways? Avios can only be redeemed for travel on AA when SAAver seats are available. Finding SAAver seats on January 3rd will likely be very challenging; finding SAAver seats on the 10th might be easier.

How much are the cheapest one-way cash tickets for CHI-MCO on the 3rd?

Also, don't overlook the possibility of flying in and/or out of TPA.
