Phuket, Thailand would fit the bill - Trisara - which has just done a huge renovation - would be my choice.

Langkawi, Malaysia - Four Seasons Langkawi - great for kids.

The about-to-open Oberoi Al Zorah, just 30 mins drive from Dubai airport and perfect for families - http://www.oberoihotels.com/hotels-in-al-zorah-ajman/

One&Only The Palm Dubai - also great for families.

How about Mauritius? There are non-stop flights there from the UK. Best here for kids would be Four Seasons Anahita, although I prefer Constace Le Prince Maurice, which also caters well for kids. Mauritius always has great kid's clubs.
Totally agree with these suggestions. We have been with our son to all of the (open) resorts and had a great time. In terms of kids activities, we preferred the FS Langkawi, where there was an amazing kids club with fun and educational activities which our son enjoyed tremendously (silk painting and other handicraft activities, kids yoga, learn to speak the local language, fish feeding, hobycat sailing etc.), but it is a very long time since we were there, so it might of course have changed. There is also a very nice family pool and the resort grounds are huge. Only small minus would be the beach which is man made and not perfect for swimming. Great place to play, though. You should go for a beach villa if you decide to go here as the pavilions would be on the smaller side for two extra beds, though we met people who were in one with two kids. Rest of island not hugely interesting, but our son enjoyed the crocodille farm and jungle walks close to Datai (where you could go for dinner one evening).

Trisara has a small kids club and my son felt that he was too old to go there when we visited. The villas and their private pools are heaven and one can easily fit two extra beds in there. The beach there has been discussed several times. It is not as nice as the Amanpuri beach, but still a great place to play for kids - or snorkel for the older ones.

One & Only the Palm had a kids club as well. We were there with another couple with a boy same age as our son, and the two boys spent hours in there. Mostly playing computer games, I admit, but as long as they were having a good time, we were happy as well. Standard accommodation too small for two extra beds. Nobody used the beach.

FS Mauritius has a kids club and a teen club which were both great when we were there.Private pools were small and freezing cold, but main pool large and good for all. Beach not perfect (man made). Nice kids golf and tennis with teacher. Standard accommodation really too small for two extra beds, but there are some with connecting doors. Nice outside area, some connected to grass fields good for playing.

Only negative with all of these is quality of beach. I would rate the beaches like this (best of worst):
Trisara
FS Langkawi
FS Mauritius
O&O The Palm
