I thought I would just add some observations on a recent La Premiere LHR - CDG - HKG trip.

At LHR there was an escort from check in to the VIP area of the Skyteam lounge - no real benefit unless you don't know your way around the airport as they just stood with you in the normal priority queues. However, duty manager did escort from the lounge to the plane which meant no queuing at the gate.

At HKG both the arrival and departure experience were exceptional. On arrival met at the aircraft door with a buggy and driven to the VIP passport lane where you have a seat while they check your passport - no queue and a very significant benefit when you look at the normal queues.

At check in on the return they knew my name before I got to the desk ( there were only two of us but I thought it was a nice touch )

On departure escorted to the lounge through VIP channels, no queuing at all. Lounge for La Premiere is the Qantas one where they have a reserved table for you and a personal greeting from the lounge manager. Asked what time you would like to board and then collected and taken to the gate - no queuing the gate staff addressed me by name and didn't ask to see passport or boarding pass - just a walk through.
