Both true! They have the Maldivian rufiyaa, but all hotels process USD natively to get hard currency into the country. You're still able to get hit with DCC if you don't have a USD card. You would also get a foreign transaction fee if your USD denominated card had one. (I imagine everyone on here with stateside issued USD cards would have a 0% FTF card.)
