It would be interesting to show FlyerTalk to a person who has never flown and let them read the Frequent Flier Forums about getting points to fly, Lounge Access, Inflight Entertainment at your seat, Requesting a Special Meal, Seat Assignments etc. I wonder what their reactions would be.

I've shown FT to some of my office mates. I think they didn't realize just how much we find to talk about. I know my non airborne people don't seem impressed with the experience. IFE is just a tiny television, they've got one many times bigger in the family room. The points thing is a mystery... sometimes mildly interesting, sometimes <yawn>, not. They just don't relate to wanting to see the world. To them, it's literally another world. My MIL is a worrier, and that's what she focuses on... DVT, crashes, jet lag, foreign food...the worry list is endless.
