The bonus with Marriott is the larger foot print and superior locations compared to Hyatt. Try planning a trip across Europe or South America with Hyatt... you can't. Will move more of my stays away from Hyatt to Marriott. Also the Marriott team for group sales in the Silicon Valley area is top notch, they run circles around Hyatt's sloppy service.
I would disagree about South America. While there seem to be more Marriott options in Brazil, in Buenos Aires there's a wonderful PH (and also one in Mendoza) but no Marriott choice at all after the FS property was deflagged, although there are several Starwoods which are not wonderful.
