All you have to do is call and request same day change within 24 hours of the flight you want to change to. I have SDC several flights where it didn't allow me to do it online, but very quickly over the phone. As long as there is E space and you are on a qualifying fare traveling via same routing, then you'll have no problem.
Changed without a hitch! Lost my upgrade on both sectors, but schedule was more important for me.
