It's mainly damage that concerns me, given electronic items aren't generally covered under luggage loss. My first comment regarding increasing fees was meant to me tongue in cheek though.
It's true AC did't start it, but they followed the trend like sheep.
I personally don't care about having to pay even when I do, it's the uncertainty of everything arriving promptly and undamaged. And by promptly I mean not just arriving to the airport that day, but arriving quickly enough that I can depart the airport within 30 minutes of wheels down.
And yes, I'm aware that most of the delays in luggage delivery are not AC's issue but the airports, but this was a rant :P
