No clear answer - would be interesting to see if the same seats are booked in the seat map.

I also wonder if they could know that certain seats have gone tech, given that they've probably allocated the actual aircraft internally, and could be blocking them for that reason too.
Looking at the actual seat map for J on BA.com, all the Expertflyer blocked seats are available to me (Gold) for selection except 2. So out of 6 'available' seats and 27 'Blocked' seats - I can select 31 out of the 33 seats, so only 2 are truly Blocked from what I can see. Still doesn't help me answer my original query
