Was looking to do something similar. Later today I have BLR-FRA(LH)-LHR(LH-EWR booked on UA stock, the direct was to expensive at time of booking. 1h and an 1h20 connections.

There is a direct UA FRA-EWR a couple of hours later than my connection, now obviously if I arrive late on my first flight I would expect them to move me to this direct anyway, but if I arrive on time will I be able to SDC to the direct? It looks like it has space in BF right now. If so would I be able to do it on the app? It looks like the connecting gate in FRA is right next o my arrival gate, I am carry on only so I don't think I would have time to go to another terminal area to see a united rep.

Any experience or tips on how to do this?
