Posted the below to TripAdvisor, so for efficiency I am copying it to this post. To add on the breakfast, as a Plat we were given 2 vouchers for breakfast, though per my wife there did not seem to be much point as the options were limited and expensive (voucher only covered part). However, there is a PJs coffee a block away and you will have a much better breakfast there.
In addition to my comments below. The hotel is WELL DONE. Nice blend of modern and old. Entry / bathroom area is exact setup as a standard room at the JW in Houston. I don't mind it - and this was sharing the room with wife, our 6YO and my sister-in-law. If you are getting ready, the curtain is private (guess somewhat different than JW Houston in that regard). Sliding glass door to the shower / bath area is substantial and not oriented to where light or noise would be an option.
We were in 1216, top floor on the north side. Nice view of downtown Baton Rouge and the Mississippi, but beauty of those two areas is definitely in the eye of the beholder.
“Grand Opening, Awesome Hotel, Awesome Staff, Place to Stay”
We just completed a stay at this hotel while in town for an LSU football game. Hotel is located in downtown of Baton Rouge, but the area seems to be reviving a bit (relatively) and there are places to eat, snack and even a full service grocery all within a couple of block.
I booked with Marriott Rewards points (Platinum member) and received the room type requested (2 queens) on the 12th, top floor. The hotel was literally having their grand opening the Friday we arrived and they apologized they were working out the kinks. While I saw a few frustrated travelers, the experience we had was flawless and I found the staff to be some of the friendliest and most helpful from all my travels - from front desk, to valets, to maid service, all completely professional and nice.
Only a few complaints and I hate to even mention. They only had one working elevator at the hotel so it could get quite backed up. They should have 3 when all is completed so this problem is likely just a temporary one. Another oddity was the presence of ice buckets in the room but no ice available on any floor. You have to call and have it brought up. Talking to one of the bellman, they are already looking in to some self service ice machines. For those familiar with LSU football, the ice demands of a game weekend are immense.
If available, this would be my go to in Baton Rouge. Its well appointed, well decorated, conveniently located with a great group of folks at your service. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
