I normally don't pay extra for preferred seats. But this is an award booking so it was essentially free. And given that it's a long flight and I prefer a window near the front, I didn't mind paying for a little extra comfort. At T-24 hours, I may or may not have reliable internet access, as I'll already be on the road. And, like I said, I don't have status with KL or FB, so I would be among the last to be able to select my seat, most likely.

So I didn't mind paying just this once. I just mind paying and then not having the booking show up because of system issues on KLM's side.
If I were you, I would bring the printed Delta confirmation with you to the airport. KLM will be obliged to honor the service you have paid for, whether that means giving you your originally selected seat, an alternative window seat (I'm sure there will be one available, as you are only one person)... or maybe an even better seat in the so-called Comfort section.
And if KLM didn't honor the selected seat, you can claim the cash back from Delta. Win win situation!
