I really doubt it's on purpose. No airline employee - for any airline - ever even looks at those tags. I'm pretty sure no baggage handler would care. They're just nice marketing pieces.

The tags are great for ID, but irrelevant (and I'd think pretty much invisible) to baggage handlers and check-in agents.

Even the orange priority tags are mostly just for show, other than at small stations. At most airports, whether or not a bag gets preferred handling is dictated entirely by the bar code on the baggage tag.
