But today -- a week later -- I went on KLM.com to print my itinerary, and noticed my seat reservation does not show up, and seems to be stuck on "payment in progress".
I also get the following error message:
I tried calling KLM, but as I am in Canada I was of course rerouted to the Delta call centre, where the (very nice) agent was unable to resolve this. He tried contacting a KLM supervisor, who also couldn't do anything. The agent suggested I call KLM directly and gave me the Amsterdam phone number, but it doesn't appear to work via Skype, and I don't really fancy paying the long distance to phone Amsterdam from Canada.
Has anyone encountered this before? Am I making hay over nothing, or should I get it resolved before I fly? It's a long haul flight and I don't really fancy losing out on my seat (and the $44 fee) because of a system glitch.
Any advice on how to contact KLM from Canada?
(Note: I'm a status-free plebe, so no access to priority service options.)
If you're paying $44 to book a preferred seat (effectively just a standard Y seat) I personally wouldn't bother following this up. Hopefully you have not been charged.
If you check in early and are traveling alone, you will have no problem finding a decent seat. And if the flight is not full, you would be kicking yourself if you see other Y passengers enjoying 3 seats to themselves in the back rows while you paid to be squashed together with the 'elite' crowd in the exact same seats which have been deemed 'preferred'.
