Correct! The first two reasons were represented as coming from a human supervisor (I was put on hold for a few minutes, though whether a person or checklist of reasons someone's upgrade isn't clearing was consulted I cannot say), and the third was straight from someone who told me she was a human supervisor.

It's more accurate to say I was pretty sure there was space, as C+ was empty, there was no upgrade list, there were five empty F seats (more than I usually see at T-18), and they were selling F. I don't like the idea that they could have told me there wasn't space and I probably would have hung up.

My companion was crediting to AS. The policy is reasonable, and I apparently could have fixed it. But I also feel like this isn't an obvious problem, so asking an agent is a reasonable step in figuring out why the system is not behaving as I think it should, as is expecting an honest attempt at figuring it out.
