at least in the "Other Asian Airlines" forum AA is understood to be the AirAsia group with all their country subsidiaries...

I agree with the other posters, take the credit for another flight or write it off and buy a new ticket. Trying to get a better flight or a refund from customer service will be like squeezing water from a rock - you are more likely to end up frustrated than getting what you are asking for (of course depending on how much time and patience you have...)
