If it is a non-refundable ticket, ET will not and should not refund.

I suggest that as you need an alternative holiday anyhow, get in contact with ET and see where you can fly to, CONNECTING in ADD. So buy another ticket to a new final holiday destination, like Nairobi or Zanzibar. See if ET will give you a special discount.
