I have a theory that perhaps there were so many QF frequent flyers booked on QF codeshare tickets and they were begging for any ability to upgrade when currently its just not possible unless its an AA marketed flight. And since the AA flight is handled by QF staff in SYD, some sort of arrangement was made. This has happened 10 months since the flights started so maybe AA is looking for other forms of revenue to maximize profits.
