Yes. I regularly book tickets like this.

For SFO-AMS, I randomly picked Nov 9-16 as travel dates. In addition to the KL nonstop, I'm offered DL8599 (14:40 AF SFO to CDG) connecting to DL8531 (AF CDG to AMS), which prices out at $1010 in Main Cabin (V) or $1939 in Premium Economy (W)/Main Cabin (W).

You used to need availability in the lowest partner bucket (AF A) for this to work, but I've seen searches that map to higher buckets so I'm not sure that's still the case.
