Stayed here for the first time last week. Rates here and at the Highlands vary wildly depending on time/demand. I booked two nights early in the week and used a DSU which put us into a Monterey Suite - seems others have had some luck being further upgraded to the much larger Hospitality Suite.
This is a large property on a golf course - over 500 rooms spanning 26 buildings. There are two pool/whirlpool areas, Stay Fit gym, numerous meeting areas, as well as an independently run spa. It makes sense to look at the map and request a room in a building/area based on what amenities are important to you (map attached).
The Monterey Suite is nothing that special - it consists of a standard room, connected to a parlor separated by a door, with pullout bed and separate bathroom and a slider which opens to either a balcony or patio sitting area. Each room has ceiling fans and a standalone AC unit which is pretty loud.
We stayed in building 3 which worked out well because it was close to parking, the heated pool/firepit/gazebo, a quick walk to the lobby/restaurants, but a bit far from the gym. There is a $20 resort fee ($10 for diamonds) which includes free valet parking among other things like outdoor ping pong tables and other games (which arguably are included at other properties).
The diamond breakfast benefit here is generous - choice of room service, buffet or ala carte items in the restaurant with a loose cap around $25/person (4 people) with a "just keep it reasonable" approach. Staff was very attentive and food good. All breakfast charges, including gratuity were removed on checkout. In addition, bottled water and complimentary coffee/tea are included for Diamonds.
All in all a nice stay and though not walkable to the main attractions, fairly convenient to sightseeing in the area.
