I already had plans to travel to YYT in March, and that's pretty much a no-brainer, since AC flies LHR-YYT nonstop - even the most diehard TP chaser wouldn't dream of finding a way to do that on BA or another OneWorld carrier.
Then a trip to YYZ in a few weeks came up. BA was wanting over £1k (in Y!) for the trip, with AC coming in at less than £500. So that was another no-brainer.
Neither of these reasons is due to BA service decline etc, what would you have done if BA flew directly to YYT or was competitive to YYZ?
The fact that BA is double the price of AC pretty much shows how futile all this is. People are clearly still flying with BA in as great if not greater numbers than ever, us, the very few, ranting on Flyertalk is of zero consequence to them.
Personally now that I'll lose silver this year (circumstance based as opposed to a conscious decision), I shall very much be choosing on convenience/ price (as Peasouper has done). BA will very much still be involved in any comparisons I do, VS may now win out however, all other things being equal, if it does come down to making a decision on a second food service in Y
