Angry How to fight undue hotel charges - Pen marks

I stayed in a Quality Inn for 2 nights using hotwire. They allege that my 4 year old wrote with a pen on the Headboard and that they had to replace the entire Headboard. They charged me $500 for the incident. I have been staying in hotels for the last 6 weeks as part of relocation & vacation. I usually stay in the IHG brand hotels and I had to settle for a couple of nights in Hotwire due to budget issues. I check the room before I go out to make sure everything is fine. I have had no issues from any hotels in the last 6 weeks.

I am very certain that the Hotel is maliciously skimming out money from me. They charged my credit card without informing me. I tried to work with the general manager and she says they are not obliged to inform me or provide me with any reports/photos of damages. I called Choice Hotels Group of which Quality Inn is a member. They said they talked to the General Manager of that hotel and were unable to do anything and gave me a complaint number. I disputed the credit card charge and the bank says I should re-dispute it and escalate it. I am considering the sue them in the small claims court as soon as my legal benefits start with my new employer.

I am so bummed with this. I lost $500 for pen marks. I am like at least they should give me headboard with the pen marks as they allege.

What options do I have? Please help and point me to the right direction.
