Transfering 250 miles costs €3.

The Amex Plat costs € 570.

Meaning that past 47,500 miles, not millions, you will be better off having such a card.

The OP asked if there was "a way" to create a family account.

This is a way to create a de facto family account, with one main card and 5 extra cards (family of 6 )

You are right, it is not free, but it works.
