I don't think you could fit that much in the pilot ... maybe. My small eagle creek folder fits in there and if you didn't use a cache you could easily get a 13" MBP in there too ... your shoes might fit in the pouches in the back with the rest of your gear in the front pockets and your folders in the back pocket but boy would you be maxing it out.
In the Western Flyer it would be no problem whatsoever. As to being the 2 carryon guy, personally I wouldn't care as some of these "one baggers" like the Tom Bihn Tri-Star can be giant. I wouldn't shy away from a Bihn A45 and a WF under the seat but for me the WF/Pilot combo easily covers my 3-4 day business casual trips and I'd only need more space if I suit it up.
